One of the first things most of us think of when we decide it’s time to get into shape is joining a gym. We wonder which gym would be best to join. After all, a gym membership represents and investment of time and money, so you want to make the right choice. There are so many different ones to pick from in the Los Angeles area.

In fact, the first question to ask is should you be joining a gym at all? Is a gym membership the best choice for you? The truth is many people don’t have a good experience at their local Tarzana gym.

The big problem with a gym membership is that many people join and then never actually go. Or they go for several weeks and then stop going. Maybe the rest of life gets busy and they end up wandering in a few times a month. One report shows that most people who belong to a gym attend for 15 – 20 days a year. Of course, they are still paying, no matter how much or how little they go. While a certain amount of drop off is inevitable, it’s not very encouraging to know that the gym is expecting you to drop off from your commitment. The staff are not concerned with how often you attend, or whether you show up at all.

Again, you can’t expect much motivation towards successful weight loss from these places, because they only want people who look great already.

Some Tarzana gyms offer good programs and equipment and have qualified staff, but are so crowded at peak hours that it’s hard to get in the work that you really need. Before you sign up for a Tarzana gym membership, stop and consider what is the best choice for you. There are other options when it comes to exercise. You can buy a home gym or attend a boot camp. Boot camps offer a high level of customization and intensity combined with the individualized attention of a personal trainer. Many people find they make better use of their time and get a higher quality workout from attending a boot camp.
